ABOUT AURAL FIX TRANSMISSION

Aural Fix Transmission is a music magazine webcast of the Aural Fix Communique publication, dedicated to independent music with a focus on the Long Island Region.

It features cd cuts, interviews and live in-studio performances.

It started as the Independent Alternative show in February 2001, on WebRadio WCWP. The show then went to WCWP 88.1FM and I was appointed Alternative / Metal Coordinator for WCWP from Sept. 2001 until Sept. 2002.

In the Fall of 2002 it was learned that the Long Island University Network, of which student run WCWP is a part of, was cutting another 3 hours of student run programming to give to the professional and paid network. This left WCWP with only 3 hours of student prgramming Monday through Friday on FM radio, on their 88.1FM frequency. During this time the show changed it's name from the Independent Alternative show to Aural Fix Transmission; to reflect the synergy between broadcast, print, and web versions of the unifying mission - to acknowledge and recognize the independent music from our Long Island region.

Due to the cut in available FM air time the show was dropped from FM and has returned to WebRadio WCWP. Which to be truthful is okay with me, since the WCWP 88.1FM signal is weak (reaching mostly North Shore Nassau County, Southern CT, eastern NYC) and many of our listeners are web based anyway.

Ultimately webradio is a more lucrative method of mass communication in my opinion since it's reach far exceeds that of broadcast radio. Someday this college station will tap into the interactivity potential, and the global reach though alliances with wireless web technologies. Oh yeah - webradio and is not licensed by the FCC, therefore they can go hump themselves!
